Bottle Feeding Technique and Amount

I recommend a fully supported, side-lying, paced bottle feeding method, as demonstrated in the video below. This position supports active feeding, protects babies from fast flow, and promotes comfort and connection.

Always use the slowest flow nipple available. Flow rates aren’t standardized—“slow” in one brand may be faster than another (e.g., preemie, level 1, 0+ months). Let your baby’s feeding cues guide you more than the label. A good feeding pace is about 5–6 minutes per ounce.

If feeding is much faster, the flow may be too fast. If much slower, it may be time to assess flow rate or your baby’s oral function.
